TEAM BUILDING

By the time you’re reading this, we are already in Antipolo having fun at our team building. I’m really am excited what will be the outcome of this get together and I’m definitely sure that camaraderie will be further strengthen! It is really mandatory that this is being done on a quarterly basis or less. Even a simple dine out monthly also helps to build the closeness of the team. We are a small team of less than 10 beautiful people, but man, we are the bomb! Hahahaha! We care for each other, and of course we love one another in a platonic way if I may add up.

Being a young professional for quite a long time now (young and long time seems to be contradicting in terms lol!). I’ve been to several team building activities. It is not just pure fun, but there are doings that will test your teamwork, logic and patience. I’m not an athletic kind of person so this is challenging for me, to run, tie/untie ropes, relay, and worst – obstacle course! Ay naku! I can’t even remember an instance why I wasn’t injured. The souvenir I always got is a scar or bruise, hehe. Lampa as it may sound but yes, I am.
Same with our life, no matter what we do, there is no guarantee you will get hurt. Just get up and continue, tripping on a small stone should not stop you – that’s all part of the game.
Why companies are investing on this? Maybe for these simple reasons:

Improve Productivity
Very often, the main objective of team building is to improve productivity. As each employee learn to work together, the more effective they may get. This kind of activity will give them opportunity to identify ways to improve processes, policies or procedures that have inhibited productivity.

Increase Motivation
This will increase the employees’ motivation in many ways. First, if they succeed in team building activities, they become more confident, which boosts motivation. Another is commitment to team building demonstrates that the business is willing to invest in their success. Lastly, employees are more often motivated when they gain trust from their fellow. They will feel confident that their work as a team is recognized and appreciated.

Cultivate Problem Solving
Activities like this involve the introducing of problem solving techniques. This is a good opportunity to practice in a simulation format that can be transferred into the workplace. Through these activities, members will gain skills that will help them identify barriers to accomplish goals that will come up along the way thus, they will be able to overcome it. Team building can give employees a structured way in solving problems while making each other aware of the resources that each member can bring to the workplace.

Encourage Creativity
Team building activities take employees out of their usual environment and give them an out-of-the-ordinary task to perform. Environment like this often gives permission for employees to be more creative and to use their imagination t accomplish tasks set before them. It also sends the message across that each employee’s creativity is welcome in the workplace. These creative problem-solving skills transfer back to the workplace once the activities are complete.
