1 John 4:19
We love because He first loved us.
We love because He first loved us.
This verse caught my attention while doing my daily readings; it made me reflect on this short yet meaningful scripture.
We live in a world were temptations are everywhere; evil lures us with earthly desires thus, making us forget whom we're suppose to glorify with our actions. Most likely than not, we meet different people that we share the same passion and interests. Whether it be shopping, music, books, sports or hobbies. But the most common thing visible is the presence of a bad habit. A vice wherein we cannot really let go of our system that if we try even for once, we will just give in right away.
Remembering those days I spent with my girlfriends over breaks wherein we indulge in our mini-session of chit-chat with ranting on the side. Puff left and right until we realized that we had wasted an hour of nonsense activity. Looking back, who would have imagined that the "mean girls" will be changed and discipled?
We may look like beauty junkies, gimikera or worst -- b*tchera/b*tchesa to the eyes of many but to the eyes of God -- we look fragile and helpless who needs His merciful love. If God calls you to serve on His church, then who are you to say NO? Who would have really thought that our common work for a particular purpose is now honoring God and making Disciples? Very far from what we were a few years back were we just go with the flow on our daily lives with not much careful thinking involve in our actions.
After we separated ways for almost 5 years, with no major catching up even thru phone calls, we were all surprised of what we have become later in our lives. We are now busy as workers or doing the missionary life. I, myself cannot consider it a missionary life yet, but I want to be one someday :) 2 from my dear friends are now full time workers and I'm so, sooo happy for both of them! They get to travel to areas which is really far from civilization; walking miles of up and down trails with a lot of tall grasses and trees on the side plus the muddy road makes you just want to quit and go back to your city life. But for them, these are just part of their mission, the mission to spread the gospel is their main goal and encountering such inconvenience is just easy sailing for them.
Everything is set in place even before we knew it. After all, what's going to happen is already planned ahead of us, even before we are formed in the womb! (Jeremiah 1:5). The blueprint of our life is written, therefore we just have to wait for His time when He will unfold it.
Having this said, I was able to get in touch with most of them and everyone was taken aback on what each other has been up to lately. We even refer some of our friends to those who are near their area so they can also assist them in working their relationship with Jesus. Imagine the joy we have in our hearts to know that yes, we are far from each other yet we are binded with circumstances like this. Just the thought of it amazes me all over again! I hope we will be able to sit down and chat about us soon, since we are scattered to different regions now, it may sound impossible to meet up but I'm positive it will come into reality :)
Philippians 2:4
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Now I understand why this was the second verse that moved me today. Our dear friends has their own fair share of burdens, but selflessly helping them to get out of the pit is what the verse tells us. Loving our neighbor is a commandment, therefore we should submit to Lord God and extend our hands to those who need it.
If you have love in your heart, like genuine love for others -- being selfless and helpful will not be a problem for you. Doing any of the two is already in your nature and you do this with happiness and joy combined. However, just be wise and know what your boundaries are so you will not tolerate those who are just lazy and doesn't have to work with their hands.
